The Influence of Stressors to the Vital Reaction Induced by Preanisolone Overdosage

Abstract
Based upon the fact that the requirement of corticoids is increased in the living body given intensive stress, David Ingle (1960) claimed that the severe stress can alleviate the vital reactions induced by cortisone overdosage.
The author made an experimental study in rats to evaluate the histopathological chanses as influenced by various stresses to the vital reactions occurring when prednisolone was administered. Both in the non-adrenalectomized and adrenalectomized rats, experimental groups were given prednisolone with the stresses of cold, burn or fracture, but the control groups were given only prednisolone.
The results. obtained are as follows :
1. Body weight was decreased both in the non-adrenalectomized and the, adrenalectomized groups, but no significant differences were observed between the experimental and the control groups.
2. In the experimental groups of the non-adrenalectomized rats, expecially in the burn or fracture given groups, atrophic changes of the lymphoid tissue were more mild than those of the control group, but no significant difference was observed between the experimental and the control groups of the adrenalectomized rats.
3. Main lesions in the liverparenchyma were glycogen depletion and fatty degeneration. In the non-adrenalectomized rats, fatty degeneration was frequently obsered in the stress given groups (experimental groups), but no single cases was observed in the control group. In the adrenalectomized rats, no significant difference was observed between the experimental and the control groups.
4. In the non-adrenalectomized, main lesions observed in the adrenal tissue were lipid depletion in the cortex and fatty degeneration in the zona reticularis. Fatty degeneration in the zona reticularis was observed only in a few cases of the control group.
5. Main lesions observed in the renal tissue were hemorrhage and cellular depletion in the glomeruli. In the non-adrenalectomized rats, stresses, those burn or fracture given group showed more marked changes in the renal tissue than the control group, but no difference was observed between the experimental and the control groups of the adrenalectomized rats.
6. In the non-adrenalectomized rats, vital reactions to the preanisolone were slightly alleviated by giving the stresses of cold, burn or fracture, but no influence of stress was recognized in the adrenalectomized rats.
